Orthogonal Shawl
Short Description: Orthogonal by Emily Greene Knits. Orthogonal is an extra-large triangular shawl, knit in delightfully squishy garter stitch with an allover graphic pattern of perforated lines created with eyelets. Both engaging and surprisingly intuitive to knit, Orthogonal’s straightforward, top-down construction and integrated garter stitch trims keep the focus on the mesmerizing interplay of simple lace charts. Simple eyelet motifs combine and recombine in unexpected ways, creating an overall pattern that seems much more than the sum of its parts.
Gauge: 20.5 stitches x 41 rows = 4” square in garter lace pattern, after blocking; 18-stitch chart repeat measures 3 1/2” wide after blocking (Note: Gauge is not critical for this pattern, but changes to pattern gauge will impact both finished measurements and yardage required.)
Finished Measurements: This pattern is written in one size; finished shawl measures 62 1/4” wide by 32 1/4” deep at center after blocking. (Note: For a shawl with more modest dimensions, you may omit the last set of charted rows before working the border and bind-off. Please note that this modification will impact both finished dimensions and required yardage.)
