Towline Hat
The Towline Hat is cozy cabled hat that harkens back to classic Aran sweaters, with options for a beanie or a foldover ribbed brim to keep your ears toasty this winter. I knit the original version using handspun,
and spinning notes are included if you'd like to spin your own yarn for this project.
Materials Needed:
- Yarn - Worsted/aran weight yarn; approximately 140 (175) yds/ 128 (160) m for the beanie version or 182 (227) yds/ 166 (208) m for the watchcap version. I recommend a 3- or 4-ply wool or wool blend with some bounce.
- Needles - Size 7 (4.5 mm) 16” (40 cm) circular and set of dpns. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge
- Notions - Marker; cable needle; tapestry needle
Sizing:
- Gauge - 23 sts and 28 rnds = 4” in Cable pattern, blocked
- Sizes - S/M (L/XL), to fit 18”–21” (22”–24”) head circumference
- Finished Size - 17” (21¼“) circumference
- Finished Length - Beanie: 8¼”; Watchcap: 10¼“ long, with brim unfolded
- Note - The smaller size will stretch to fit up to a 23” head circumference with a snug fit. If you prefer a looser fit, choose the larger size.
